- Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre (Female Presenting)
A highly competitive overachiever with a lisp, Logainne is passionate about social justice and deeply determined to win the bee. Often a bit of a “teacher’s pet,” she still has a vulnerability that emerges as she faces her overbearing fathers’ expectations. - Marcy Park (Female Presenting)
A high-strung, perfectionistic girl with a hidden emotional side. She is incredibly accomplished in many fields (sports, academics, etc.) but feels the pressure of never being able to relax or let down her guard. - Olive Ostrovsky (Female Presenting)
The sweet, shy girl with a deep love of words. Olive has an introspective quality and a heartfelt journey during the show, particularly as she deals with her absent father and the uncertain relationship with her mother. - William Barfee (Male Presenting)
A nerdy and awkward boy with a unique spelling method (he spells by tapping his foot). William is confident in his abilities but lacks social skills, and his sardonic humor hides a deep desire to be liked. - Chip Tolentino (Male Presenting)
A charming but somewhat immature boy who has a lot of pride in his spelling abilities. He faces some awkward situations during the bee, particularly in dealing with his first crush, but he’s determined to come out on top. - Leaf Coneybear (Male Presenting)
An eccentric and quirky boy who comes from a large family of overachievers. He’s a bit of a dreamer and not exactly the brightest, but his whimsical nature and ability to stay positive make him a unique competitor. - Rona Lisa Peretti (Female Presenting)
A former spelling bee champion and the energetic host of the competition. She is a warm, upbeat person who tries to keep the event running smoothly, but her nostalgia for the past and desire to impress can sometimes cause her to be a bit overbearing. - Mitch Mahoney (Male or Female Presenting)
A former convict serving as the bee’s “comfort counselor.” Mitch is tough and no-nonsense, but over the course of the show, we see a softer side of him as he navigates his unusual role. - Vice Principal Panch (Male or Female Presenting NON-SINGING ROLE)
A stern, no-nonsense individual who has been thrust into the role of the bee’s official pronouncer. They add a dry, comedic tone to the proceedings.
